Police in Louisville, Ky., say copper thieves were looking for vacant houses with “for sale” signs in the yards.
It was, however, the theft of air conditioning units from a church that resulted in the arrests of 27-year-old Justin Edwards and 29-year-old Derrik Dowdy. The men were indicted this week after their arrests in December, according to WLKY-TV.
Officers said they found parts from four units from New Cut Baptist Church in the back of the suspects’ pickup truck. Further investigation linked Edwards and Dowdy to other thefts, including some from homes.
Investigators said most of the houses where copper was stolen were unoccupied and on the real estate market.
