A 5-year-old boy is recovering after he was struck by a float during a parade in southwest Florida.
Dade City Police officials say it’s unclear whether the boy was run over or just knocked down during Friday’s parade.
The child was treated at a Tampa hospital for unknown injuries, but he appeared alert as he was loaded into an ambulance. He is not being identified.
A 9-year-old boy was killed during the 2007 Christmas parade when he was run over by a float while reaching for candy.
Parade officials now require floats to cover their wheels and hand out candy instead of throwing it.
