Authorities say Peacock Alley, an indoor shopping center in the northwest Georgia city of Dalton, has been mostly destroyed by fire.
The Daily Citizen reports that the shopping center in the city’s downtown area went up in flames around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
Peacock Alley owner John Davis said there were eight businesses in the building.
Dalton Fire Chief Bruce Satterfield said all of the businesses except Peacock Alley Cafe, a restaurant in the back of the building, are a complete loss.
Authorities said much of the downtown area was closed to the public Sunday. They said parts of Hamilton Street – a main thoroughfare through downtown – were expected to remain closed Monday.
The fire chief said the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
