OSHA Cites Georgia Company After Trench Collapse

Federal officials say they found that a Georgia firm violated safety regulations after a Covington man died when a trench collapsed at a subdivision in Cumming.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Friday that Jackson-based C. Scott Fulcher, who was doing business as 2-Brothers Enterprises Inc., has been cited for two willful and one serious violation and fined $116,200.

OSHA investigators say the company was installing a sewer line in a trench at the Waterstone Falls subdivision in February and failed to provide protection against cave-ins. Authorities say dirt placed at the edge of the trench had fallen into it, trapping 20-year-old Aaron Banks.

A representative of the company could not immediately be reached for comment.
