South Carolina County Recovering from Wildfire Curbs Burning

October 9, 2009

A South Carolina county recovering from a huge wildfire earlier this year has approved a partial burning ban for outdoor debris.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported that the new ban by the Horry County Council prohibits burning debris on days declared red flag warning days by the state.

Several other municipalities in the area have burning bans. North Myrtle Beach passed a ban this summer after being charred by the April 23 wildfire that started when a trash fire set four days earlier rekindled.

The fire caused an estimated $19 million in damage. More than 70 homes were destroyed and dozens of others were damaged.
