Kentucky Shoppers Sue Wal-Mart Over Flip-Flops

August 31, 2009

A Wal-Mart shopper in Kentucky is suing the big-box retailer for a pair of flip-flops she says caused chemical burns on her feet.

Elizabeth Packard bought the Sand-n-Sun flip-flops at the Wal-Mart in Shelbyville in 2007. The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that Packard is the third woman in Kentucky in the past 18 months to file suit in federal court in Lexington over the store’s flip-flops.

Wal-Mart pulled the footwear, which was made in Hong Kong, off the shelves in August 2007. Michelle Bradford, a spokeswoman for Wal-Mart, says the company continues to look into the situation.

Packard alleges she suffered chemical burns on her feet, leaving her with physical and mental pain and suffering, permanent disfigurement, medical expenses and loss of income.
