Georgia Gets Fire Safety Grants from FEMA

Georgia fire departments will use $170,000 in federal grant money for fire prevention and public safety in high-risk communities.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will distribute $500 million to fire departments and emergency medical service organizations nationwide through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

The most recent Georgia recipients included Lumpkin County Fire/EMS, and fire departments in Jekyll Island, Sandy Springs and Cartersville.

The program supports projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards. Projects include media campaigns and arson awareness programs.
