FEMA Disaster Office in Mississippi to Close Friday

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Recovery Center in Greenville, Miss. is set to close on Friday.

FEMA officials have processed more than 2,100 applications and awarded more than $3 million for individual federal assistance since the DRC opened earlier this month in response to September’s Hurricane Gustav-related flooding.

Individual assistance gives eligible homeowners up to $28,000 to rebuild or repair their homes. Washington County homes experienced flood damage in the Sept. 3 storm that brought more than eight inches of rain to the area in three hours.

No funds have been allocated for public assistance in Washington County, though there are four such projects under review. Public assistance reimburses up to 75 percent of the cost to remove debris and repair or replace disaster-damaged publicly owned buildings.
