Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood said a Tutwiler, Miss. police officer is charged on felony false pretense and insurance fraud.
Hood said 39-year-old Ben Jones III was arraigned before a county judge July 31 and released on a $5,000 bond.
Jones is accused of telling Allstate Insurance Co. that he lost personal property in an April 30 fire at a home he said he rented in Marks, Miss.
Hood says investigators found Jones did not rent or live in the home and did not keep personal property there.
