This effort is a drop in the bucket WHEN the next major storm or two or three whack Fl. What difference does one-day’s shelter and provisions make? Rental costs are $1.5Million per year excluding maintenance, insurance, and staffing. I hope the state of Fl is footing the bill for this folly. The only ones who might benefit are the idiots who continually ignore evacuation orders and get jammed. FEMA shouldn’t be responsible for their – – – – poor judgment.

It will probably be destroyed in a hurricane. If Florida is footing the bill, I feel sorry for the taxpayers!

Given the Dade County location, it will be pilfered long before any storm…

Disastors that are predictable and common
to a specific geographic area should be
handled to the greatest reasonable extent at the State level. Let them bear the responsibility and expense and guess what, they will deliver better than any federal agency. Everybody wants to complain about FEMA but really, what do you expect? Not only that, but there is no doubt that 4-8 hurricanes will make land every year. Who is surprised by that at this late date? States that don’t prepare for the obvious are remiss.

There are some people that will find something wrong with anything that is done.
    This is a perfect example!

Florida’s Governor Crist has yet again taken measures to help the people of Florida!
By having a contingency plan in the event of catastrophy.
The people of Florida should be proud to have a governor that is willing to take such measures!
Quit quit whining and find some good from this!
Excellent idea by the governor and all involved!

Chrome: We don’t need to see the same comment 3 times. Do you have a nervous twitch? The FL governor is probably a decent, well-intended man. Unfortunately, he’s putting a bandaid on a sucking chest wound. The problem is the PEOPLE who live in FL. They chose to live in hurricane alley. I’m tired of hearing “they like the warm weather, they’re retirees on a fixed income”. The simple fact is they are responsible for taking care of themselves. The government is not their extended care facility. If they went cheap on their dwelling and bought a trailer or some frame ranch that won’t stand up to a severe storm, too bad. If they fail to follow evacuation orders, too bad. If they don’t organize an emergence kit, too bad. If they are too dumb to buy insurance (but always seem to have the money for smokes, booze, and golf), too bad. The real test will be the next time a major storm hits FL. If history is any indicator, we won’t have to wait too long.

No need to get nasty little man. I’m not an insurance agent either. Didn’t your parents tell you not to assume? Why are you bashing their profession. If it weren’t for them you wouldn’t have a job.

Now YOU tell me to take it easy? Look at all the bashing the residents of Florida have been going through since that major hurricane. Why don’t you waste your energy on bashing the Army Corp of Engineers for rebuidling Louisiana. The damn place is 2 feet below sea level at least to begin with and I don’t see you bashing anyone there for building in the same place. They should have left it alone.
Do I hear aganets bashing that state? No! Do I hear anyone bashing the states out west that need assistance? No!
Why is it Fl is taking so much B.S.from all ends?
Finally if it weren’t for inmsurance agents I wouldn’t have an insurance bill.
