Insurers Praise Florida’s Home Mitigation Program

Property/casualty insurers say that Florida’s efforts to strengthen homes against storm damage are part of what is needed to improve the insurance situation for homeownrs.

William Stander, assistant vice president and regional manager for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, praised state lawmakers’ efforts to enhance the My Safe Florida Home Program.

“These long-term enhancement measures will make Florida homes safer and stronger, and alleviate the losses from future storms”, Stander said. He called the prorgam a “crucial ingredient to a long-term solution that will help make insurance coverage more available and affordable.”

He cited the Legislature for provisions promoting loss prevention and providing consumers with economic incentives to strengthen their homes that are contained in the state’s proposed $71 billion budget for fiscal year 2007/2008.
