Attorney: Lott settles lawsuit vs. State Farm
    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
U.S. Sen. Trent Lott has agreed to settle the lawsuit he filed against State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. for refusing to cover Hurricane Katrina\’s damage to his Gulf Coast home, an attorney for the Mississippi Republican said Friday.

Terms of Lott\’s settlement with State Farm were not disclosed. Zach Scruggs, one of the senator\’s attorneys, said he expects the deal to be completed early next week.

\”I think it\’s fair to say it\’s a done deal,\” Scruggs said. \”Right now it\’s an agreement in principle, and he should be signing the papers soon.\”

Of course he sold out. The house and senate are both available at the right price. It\’s the standard. He got his, you didn\’t get yours? Oh, gee, musta slipped his mind.
Besides, it wasn\’t a federal issue anyway.
…..and for those asking for fraud laws on insurance, they are not a federal issue either. I expect it is more likely that Lott figured that out. He didn\’t get a payoff.

The Corporate Fraud Task Force is a task force of the United States Federal Government.

It was created by Executive Order 13271, \”Establishment of the Corporate Fraud Task Force\”, on July 9, 2002.

The task force was formed by President George W. Bush in the wake of corporate accounting scandals that shook investor confidence.

\”We will use the full weight of the law to expose and root out corruption,\” Bush said on July 9, 2002. \”My administration will do everything in our power to end the days of cooking the books, shading the truth and breaking our laws.\”

According to CNN at the time:

\”Bush\’s speech was designed in part to refute critics who have called him too cozy with Corporate America — particularly Democrats who, in a congressional election year, seem unlikely to cut him much slack, especially after raising questions about his own past business dealings.\”

\”A larger amount of the fraud committed in the insurance industry is committed by the companies against the consumer, than by consumers against the companies.\”

Hope- Your opinion is not evidence, so I would like to see a link to a reputable study proving this statement.

    Incomplete advertising is not fraud.
For example it is common for insurance companies and other kinds of businesses to say or at least imply \”that they are the only provider you need\”. Or in insurance we do it all, generally meaning, home, auto, and life insurance. But most of the \”name brands\” (a name brand is a company that has lots of consumer advertising) will not do many important coverages. example:
    personal disability income
    pollution
    long haul trucks
lots of types of small businesses
new businesses of almost any kind
    general contractors
    school districts
    This list goes on forever.
    It is isn\’t fraud.

    No, it\’s not fraud.

I\’m still waiting on evidence showing that insurance companies are responsible for the vast majority of fraud.

    Statements that broad need evidence.

You cannot make accusations based on your worldview and then assume that everyone agrees.

Either the statement is true, in which case there will be statistical evidence supporting it, or it is false and there is no evidence supporting it.

If it is statistically true, then the posters attacking the companies on this (and many other threads) are on moral high ground and deserve our support in their battle against corruption.

If that statement is not statistically defensible, then many of the posters here are whiny jerks trying to justify their greed and poor decision making through untrue statements and they deserve our derision and scorn.

    So, which is it?
