The word is lobbyist, but a lobbyist has nothing to do with your choice of insurance companies. With several hundred insurance companies from which to choose, why buy from the farm?

State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. is on track with its goal to notify 35,000 policyholders in the three Coast counties that they can have their claims reviewed.

Letters went out last week to more than 1,000 policyholders whose homes Katrina swept away, leaving only slabs. State Farm, in cooperation with Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale, has agreed to use new teams to assess the claims and make new offers to cover wind damage.

State Farm representatives said another batch of letters is scheduled to go out today, with two more batches to follow on April 23 and April 26. The mail dates were randomly selected on the remaining letters. They will instruct policyholders on the process to follow for the claims reviews.

Most companies know that it is far cheaper to do claims promptly and correct than do it wrong. Notice there are not over 400 insurance companies involved in Katrina lawsuits.
    BUT
    You never answered my question.
    Why buy from State Farm?

    Let me be more clear.
If several friend get a bad haircuts at a particular barber shop or salon, do you go there?
If a restaurant is dirty every time you go, do you go back?
There are lots of insurance companies.
WHY do you buy insurance from State Farm?

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company (State Farm) appeals from a $1.18 billion judgment entered against it in a nationwide class action lawsuit tried in the circuit court of Williamson County, Illinois. The three-count complaint, filed on behalf of a class of State Farm automobile insurance policyholders (plaintiffs), alleged breach of contract, consumer fraud, and claims seeking equitable relief. On appeal State Farm seeks the decertification of the class and a reversal of the judgment below or, alternatively, a new trial. State Farm also seeks to have the punitive damages award vacated or reduced.

When Insurance Journal last spoke with Sandy Praeger, she was only months into the job. Kansans elected the Republican as insurance commissioner in November 2002. Back then she was tackling insurers\’ use of credit scores in underwriting and rating, pushing a moderate bill that restricted, but did not ban the practice.

The bill eventually passed, but Praeger\’s recent effort to battle insurance fraud–Senate Bill 207–has been tabled for the current legislative session, according to the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud. The bill would have stated that all insurance schemes are a crime and required carriers who suspected fraud to report it to the insurance department. The news about the bill\’s fate came after the interview below was conducted. Praeger discussed how to better battle insurance fraud, the controversy over contingent commissions, and the progress Kansas is making to modernize its regulatory system and stave off Congressional oversight
