Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine said a recent fire that destroyed the former Hahira High School was arson.
High winds reportedly fanned the flames and made firefighting efforts especially difficult. The 70-year-old old school building on East Main Street had been vacant for several years, according to Oxendine.
A preliminary estimate placed the loss at approximately $100,000.
