An early June hailstorm caused an estimated $1 billion in insured losses to residential and commercial properties and automobiles, the majority of which is expected to be in Texas, according to Karen Clark & Company.
Baseball-sized hail was reported in Dallas, Tarrant and Denton counties. The storm produced destructive hail for nearly an hour and dissipated south of Arlington.
An initial estimate from the Insurance Council of Texas suggests 20,000 residential structures and 25,000 automobiles have been damaged.
The hailstorm caused significant damage to automobiles in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The majority of residential and commercial damage is expected to occur to roofs, windows, skylights and solar panels.
