The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a driver was seriously injured when a piece of concrete crumbled off of a bridge, smashed through her windshield and struck her in the head.
Troopers say 37-year-old Shannon Durham of Collinsville was driving on U.S. Route 75 in Tulsa on Monday when the debris fell from the Archer Street bridge. They say she hit the guard rail multiple times and traveled about 100 yards after being hit.
Durham was transported to an area hospital. Troopers describe her condition as stable.
An Oklahoma Department of Transportation spokeswoman says the concrete broke off in a chain reaction when a driver on the bridge hit a wall. She says the bridge is structurally sound and is scheduled for cosmetic repairs.
