The University of Arkansas is creating a Walk-Only zone in the center of the Fayetteville campus.
Beginning Monday, bicycle riders will be required to walk their bikes, skate boarders carry their boards and no delivery vehicles will be allowed on sidewalks in an area bordered roughly by the Arkansas Union on the west, Campus Walk on the east, the School of Law and Agriculture on the north and the Fine Arts and Chemistry buildings on the south.
The university says a few authorized service vehicles will be allowed.
The Walk-Only zone will be in effect Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
UA Police Department Director Steve Gahagans says several pedestrians have been injured by bike riders in recent years and the new rule will make the sidewalks safer.
