Officials suspect lightning sparked a fire that caused major damage to the middle school campus in Woodward, Okla.
Monday’s fire damaged about a 60-square-foot portion of the north Woodward Middle School building. Interim Superintendent Kyle Reynolds says the fire burned above a false ceiling and sent smoke damage throughout the building.
No one was injured in the blaze.
The Woodward News reports that school leaders plan to declare an emergency for insurance purposes. Officials don’t yet know whether the building will be usable this fall for middle school students.
