Copper Thieves Steal $60K of Wire From Texas Parks

Thieves have stolen nearly 10,000 feet of copper wire from two Houston-area parks by ripping out the buried metal.

La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking says insurance should cover some of the $60,000 cost to replace the copper wire stolen last weekend.

The Galveston County Daily News reported Thursday that nearly 9,000 feet of copper wire was swiped from Highland Bayou Park. As much as 600 feet of copper wire was taken from Mahan Park.

La Marque police say thieves cut the wire that connected to a high-voltage box and then disassembled 14 meter boxes and cut those wires as well. Investigators believe the crooks used a used a vehicle to pull buried copper wiring from the ground.

Thieves also took copper wiring from a lift station.
