Three people, including a doctor and a former police officer, have been indicted on federal charges of operating pain clinics that sold prescriptions for highly addictive drugs.
Dr. Joseph J. Mogan III, Tiffany Miller and Donald Nides, a former New Orleans police officer assigned to a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration task force, are accused of conspiring to run “pill mills” in Metairie and Slidell. According to the indictment, the clinics handed out prescriptions for drugs such as oxycodone, methadone and hydrocodone.
The indictment alleges that Mogan and Miller paid off Nides with cash and gifts to hide the clinics’ illegal activities from law enforcement.
The indictment returned Friday and unsealed on Monday.
It was unclear whether those indicted have attorneys.
