Lawmakers have agreed to let Attorney General Buddy Caldwell replace the state-funded vehicle damaged in a car crash last year.
First Assistant Attorney General Trey Phillips said insurance will cover the $28,075 cost of the new Ford Expedition.
The joint House and Senate budget committee agreed to the purchase without objection.
Statewide elected officials are allowed to buy vehicles on the state’s dime or receive a car allowance. Lawmakers must first approve the vehicle purchases, however.
Caldwell suffered minor injuries in August, after his sport utility vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree in Madison Parish.
