The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to build a floodwall on top of the existing Mississippi River levee in Plaquemines Parish, La., from Augusta to Oakville.
The project is designed to reduce the risk of riverine flooding during a hurricane.
The $34.5 million project was awarded to FEDCON Joint Venture.
Work is expected to be completed in October 2015.
The floodwall will be eight feet high.
