November 8, 2013

Central Texas flood victims who lost personal identification documents in last week’s storms can get help from the Department of Public Safety.

DPS on Wednesday offered replacement driver’s licenses and ID cards at the Dove Springs Recreation Center in Austin. A DPS mobile disaster unit was dispatched as part of recovery efforts from the late October storms and flooding that left at least five people dead.

Several hundred people attended a town hall meeting Tuesday night in Austin about storm damage and assistance. Police Chief Art Acevedo apologized for delayed 911 response efforts as flooding overwhelmed some neighborhoods, especially along Onion Creek.

The Austin City Council on Thursday is expected to decide whether to waive permitting and development fees for homes damaged or destroyed by flooding.
