Food safety inspectors from the Oklahoma City-County Health Department will be at the Oklahoma State Fair to ensure that its food vendors prevent foodborne illnesses.
Special events coordinator Sasan Pilehvar says whether it’s roasted corn, Indian tacos or turkey legs, vendors at the fair are learning the basics of keeping food hot or cold enough to prevent the growth of pathogens. Vendors also know that inspectors will be checking throughout the fair to see if they’re following food safety precautions. The fair begins Thursday.
The training is a short course in the most essential elements of food safety and participants are issued food safety cards that must be displayed in vendor booths. Courses began on Tuesday and close to 1,800 employees and volunteers will receive training.
