Moore Schools to Reopen After Devastating Tornado

Officials at Moore Public Schools are welcoming teachers to a new school year following a devastating tornado that destroyed two schools and damaged many others.

Superintendent Robert Romines will welcome 1,450 Moore Public School teachers to the 2013-2014 school year on Monday, 84 days after a massive tornado struck the community. Teachers will be updated on the progress of the school district’s recovery, changes to the locations of some administrative facilities and resources that are available from national support organizations.

Classes are scheduled to resume on Friday. Officials say the district has 750 more students than were enrolled for the 2012-2013 school year.

Storms that stuck the area on May 20 and May 31 damaged 23 of 36 sites in the Moore, Okla., school district.
