Storms Damage Schools, Homes in Northeast Oklahoma

Dozens of homes and buildings are damaged but no serious injuries were reported after possible tornadoes touched down in northeast Oklahoma.

Mayes County Emergency Management Director John Janzen says the storm downed trees and damaged several homes in Spavinaw early Thursday. He says one person suffered a minor injury.

Spavinaw Public Schools are closed for the rest of the week after several school buildings sustained damage.

Emergency managers say damage was also reported in Delaware and Rogers counties in northeast Oklahoma.

The severe storms are also causing flooding in the area. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol shut down U.S. 69 at the Wagoner-Mayes county line because the highway is “completely underwater.” State Highway 16 in Wagoner County is also shut down because of high water.
