Oklahoma Sewer Truck Caught in Sinkhole on Street

A city of Tulsa, Okla., utility truck was stuck for hours when it was caught in a 9-foot sinkhole on a city street.

City spokeswoman Michelle Allen told reporters that the road collapsed Monday morning because of a defect in an underground sewer line.

Truck driver James Thomas told reporters he could feel the truck moving and sinking while at a stop sign and he tried to drive away – but it was too late. The rear of the truck remained in the hole for several hours before a tow truck was able to remove it.

Officials say the truck is used to clean storm sewers and was loaded with water – bringing its weight to about 60,000 pounds.
