Pruitt says major property damage following a natural disaster attracts criminals looking for ways to take advantage. He says homeowners who suffered damage in wildfires should be aware of the possible schemes.

The Attorney General’s Public Protection Unit monitors and investigates home repair and charity fraud after natural disasters. Investigators pay special attention to repair workers who travel from city to city following disasters.

Pruitt says Oklahomans will want to rebuild and make repairs as quickly as possible, but they should be cautious and patient. The attorney general says homeowners should assure that the contractors they hire are reputable.

Pruitt says homeowners should seek referrals from people they trust and deal with local firms.
