June 28, 2012

An Arkansas woman was sentenced to three years in prison for stealing valuables from a Duquesne home after the southwest Missouri town was hit by a tornado.

Twenty-seven-year-old Lynette Curry, of Rogers, Ark., was sentenced Monday for felony theft in a plea deal. Burglary and a drug charge were dropped.

The defendant and an alleged accomplice, 35-year-old Gary E. Wright, 35, of Rogers, Ark., were arrested in Duquesne three days after May 2011 tornado.

The Joplin Globe reports police say a vehicle Curry was driving contained hundreds of pieces of jewelry and a computer that were taken from a tornado-damaged home.

Wright is scheduled to go to trial in August on burglary and felony theft charges.
