Federal regulators are using a historic drilling rig in Morgan City, La., as a classroom for new inspectors.
The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement recently held training classes aboard the Mr. Charlie. About 25 inspectors took part in the class aboard the historic drilling rig.
The Daily Review reports that BSEE used the rig for a class on regulatory inspection that required access to equipment.
The rig is a museum and an authentic offshore drilling rig companies use to train employees.
Chris Barry, director of BSEE’s National Offshore Training and Learning Center, said students learned how to inspect a working oil rig.
