$90M Program to Improve New Orleans Area Roads

A $90 million program has been started to repair, restore and improve more than 60 roadways in Orleans and Jefferson parishes.

Many of the roads were damaged during hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 and then used as major hauling routes for post-story recovery operations. Repairs will include resurfacing, pavement patching, repairing curbs and installing ramps for the disabled.

The program – known as “Paths to Progress” – is a collaborative effort involving the Federal Highway Administration, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the New Orleans Regional Planning Commission and the City of New Orleans.

DOTD will accept bids on the first segments in mid-April and plans community meetings prior to construction.
