Investigators have determined that a pickup driver ran a red light before hitting a patrol car in a wreck that killed a Texas trooper.
The Department of Public Safety on Monday released the preliminary accident report on the fiery March 24 accident in El Paso. Trooper Javier Arana Jr. was dead at the scene.
Authorities say Arana’s patrol car was struck while going through an intersection as he responded to a call about a pursuit.
The driver of the Ford Ranger, 18-year-old Edgardo Antonio Flores, has not been charged as the investigation continues. Flores and a passenger were hurt in the two-vehicle accident.
About 1,500 mourners attended Arana’s funeral on Friday.
