A Southeast Texas man has died after a tree fell on him as he tried to cut and collect some firewood.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says 70-year-old Edwin Worthy of Orangefield was dead at the scene Tuesday afternoon. An autopsy has been ordered.
Authorities say Worthy was cutting a large tree, on a neighbor’s property, when the top got hung up in another tree. Officials say the cut tree then snapped and broke loose, falling on Worthy.
Relatives who were nearby called 911.
Orangefield is about 100 miles northeast of Houston.
