Federal disaster aid has been approved for eight counties affected by severe storms and flooding in Arkansas last week.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday night announced that federal aid has been approved for Benton, Clay, Faulkner, Garland, Lincoln, Pulaski, Randolph and Saline counties from the severe weather that began April 23. The declaration makes federal funding available to individuals and local governments in the affected counties.
Gov. Mike Beebe over the weekend requested a federal disaster declaration for 57 counties affected by the severe weather since April 14 that has killed 22 Arkansans.
A spokesman for Beebe said the governor was pleased with the agency’s response and was hopeful the rest of the disaster request would be approved by FEMA.
