The U.S. Coast Guard says a workover rig exploded and caught fire south of New Orleans, injuring at least three workers.
The Coast Guard responded to a rig fire in Bayou Perot, La., on Dec. 1, approximately 20 miles south of New Orleans.
The Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit in Houma, La., received a call at approximately from Louisiana Delta Oil that there had been a fire aboard a Grosse Tete rig.
The injured crewmembers were taken by boat from the rig to an awaiting ambulance and then transported to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
The fire is out. The Coast Guard said there were no reports of pollution.
