The state has awarded $30 million in hurricane recovery money to 55 municipalities in parishes hit by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
The Office of Community Development says the grants will improve infrastructure and disaster response capabilities.
The state awarded $15 million to towns with fewer than 1,500 residents and $15 million to towns with more than 1,500 residents. The money comes from $1 billion in federal block grants awarded to Louisiana to help communities in 53 parishes hit by the 2008 storms.
