The widow of a collector of government trucks has donated three fire vehicles to a small Oklahoma County fire department.
Luther, Okla., firefighters had entered a national contest hoping to win a new pumper truck for their agency, recording a video that gained popularity on the Internet. They finished second, which meant no new vehicle.
But the widow of the late owner of Carter Chevrolet in Okarche heard about their efforts. When she learned about the department’s need for equipment, she donated the three trucks. The donated tanker is 30 years newer than the one the Luther department had been using.
Fire Chief Jason Maynard told television station KWTV that the department is appreciative of the gift. He says Luther firefighters now are trying to raise money to fix the donated vehicles so they can be used.
