The U.S. Geological Survey on Dec. 17 recorded the fifth small earthquake in one week near Jones, Okla.
No injuries or damage have been reported.
The magnitude 2.8 quake was recorded at 8:25 p.m. and is at least the fifth in the area during the previous week. The previous four ranged from magnitude 2.4 to 3.4.
Quakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3 are generally the smallest felt by people.
The Dec. 17 night quake was centered about 2 miles southeast of Jones – about 15 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.
A small earthquake also was recorded on Dec. 16 near Jones.
Quakes were also felt along the New Madrid fault in Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee on Dec. 18. In addition, a tremblor was recorded in southeast Nebraska on Dec. 16.
