One worker was killed and another was seriously injured when a crane collapsed at an industrial building in south Louisiana.
The Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s department says 30-year-old Heath Perkins, of Montegut, was pronounced dead at a local hospital less than two hours after the Nov. 17 accident at Elevated Boats Inc.’s facility in Houma.
The sheriff’s office says a second employee of Elevated Boats, 60-year-old Larry Naquin, of Bourg, was being treated for serious injuries.
Witnesses told investigators that the operator of a 400-ton crane was moving a 30-ton weight from a flatbed truck when the crane’s 200-foot boom crashed into a “fabrication shop,” trapping one person inside the building.
