Oklahoma Wildfire Damage Estimates Increased to $30M

April 20, 2009

An Oklahoma insurance official says insured losses from recent wildfires that destroyed more than 100 structures in Oklahoma are expected to reach $30 million.

Assistant Insurance Commissioner Marc Young says that figure is based on tracking information from major carriers in the state.

State Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland says companies are continuing to respond to customers affected by the fires.

Young says insurance companies appear to have reacted quickly to serve Oklahoma customers. But he cautioned that property owners seeking help should make sure they are dealing with licensed insurance representatives.

Previous estimates put the damage from the wildfires at arount $20 million.
