Authorities say an elderly Ada, Okla., man was killed and a woman was injured when their car was struck by a freight train in Pontotoc County.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Howard E. O’Daniel suffered massive injuries and died at a railroad crossing just outside of the Ada city limits at 10 a.m. Nov. 23.
According to the patrol, the 88-year-old O’Daniel was driving south on a county road as a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train was headed west.
Troopers say O’Daniel maneuvered around the railroad barricades and was hit by the train. The impact pushed the car off the tracks.
Opal O’Daniel, who was riding in the car, was admitted to Valley View Hospital in Ada in good condition after sustaining head and arm injuries.
