Fire tore through a barn at a thoroughbred training center in Bossier Parish, La. killing 12 horses trapped in their stalls.
Bossier Parish Sheriff’s investigators, the state fire marshal and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the fire, which occurred just before midnight Wednesday.
Deputies say the fire had engulfed the barn when firefighters arrived. The center, located just south of Benton, is used to train thoroughbreds to race.
Deputies say there was one employee in a trailer at the site when the fire broke out.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. A specially trained dog was brought in Thursday to go through the barn to see if there was evidence of an accelerant.
