Best of luck. People need their vehicles to make their livings, and the courts fully understand. If you impound someone’s car, you better get ready to pay them for it, otherwise they’ll go 4th Amendment on you.
I wish Texas would do like California….Cali is what they call a “No fault state. You buy insurance for your protection only. The insurance you buy only covers you not the other person. So if you have no insurance and its is my fault & I run into you(and you have no insurance) to bad so sad I am covered your not.
This program still only works if you get STOPPED! I was under the understanding that the state was going to match VIN’s with insurance records and fine accordingly? The state has spent millions of dollars on system that stillworks like the old system, ONLY IF YOU GET STOPPED. you still have no penalty for driving without insurance.
Sorry, close, but no cigar! Or in this case, bread but NO meat!
Texas wants to give citations and not impound cars because there is revenue in it. If the state were concerned with insurance rates and the well being of law abiding citizens, they would get the uninsured drivers off the road by taking their cars.
Take the car+tie up courts = lost revenue.
levy fine+levy bigger fine next time=revenue
The system is not mandatory becuase it would cost money for the smaller departments to receive and display the data and no one wants to pay for it.
$1 per vehicle for the last 5 years means Texas has put over $90M in the general fund and spent less than $7M on the system.
Its about revenue for the state. It’s always been that way.
my car totaled,,,,no problem.I have insurance ,they didnt , not their problem, my insurance goes up, I have to find another used car.theirs still runs,,,no insurance on it.

Have to crawl a bit before you can walk. Give it some time.
