Troopers from the Louisiana State Police insurance fraud section arrested a Baton Rouge property owner for insurance fraud. Troopers say the arrest was in relation to a burglary, which occurred in 2006 at a residence on Hooper Road in Baton Rouge.
According to the state police, Milton Day of Baton Rouge, filed a claim with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company indicating he lost property due to a home burglary. Day was required to produce documentation showing the value of the items taken during the burglary.
Day provided several receipts to substantiate his claim. The receipts indicated the value of the items stolen totaled more than $5,000 dollars. Upon closer review, Liberty Mutual determined that Day altered the receipts and inflated the value of the items stolen by more than $4,000 dollars.
On May 28, 2008, the 19th Judicial District issued an arrest warrant for Day for insurance fraud. Day subsequently turned himself in to authorities at the East Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center.
