Okla. House Panel Approves Bill Targeting Uninsured Drivers

A bill that would limit insurance awards for uninsured drivers involved in an accident has passed an Oklahoma House of Representatives subcommittee.

House Bill 3380 by Muskogee Republican George Faught was approved by the House Economic Development and Financial Services’ Subcommittee on Insurance and Retirement.

The bill now advances to the full committee.

Faught says people should not be rewarded for driving without insurance.

Under his bill, uninsured drivers would not be allowed to collect damages for pain and suffering in the event of an accident. They would be allowed to receive payments for medical costs, property costs and lost income.

The bill also contains an exemption for uninsured drivers who are hit by a drunk driver.
