I’m also disgusted by your comments. Don’t equate the behavior of animals with people. THEY AREN’T PEOPLE. My son and his wife owned one of these animals for a few years. They treated it with love and care. My daughter in law is a dog groomer and animals simply love her instinctively. This dog was fine until the baby was born. It became jealous of the baby apparently. In one week it chased a jogger and then growled at the baby. They had to have someone without children take it. It broke their hearts, but this dog could have killed the baby in a second. Nobody said anything about killing these dogs, just recogonizing their behavior. I was bit by a small dog when I was a child. It left a few small marks on my leg. The pit bull might have shredded my leg or killed me. That’s just they way they have been bred. You can’t treat animals as if they are people with people’s motives and behavior.

I agree with Sam. The law should apply to all breeds. I own a Pit Bull which is as sweet as pie. My neighbors shetland sheepdog attacked my dog and tore her ear and almost ripped out her eye. My dog barely fought back – the neighbors dog was unscaved. That was not the first attack either on the neighborhood dogs by that shetland sheepdog. ALL DOGS BITE – SOME MORE THAN OTHERS – THE BREED DOES NOT MATTER.

I agree with you, Sam. It should apply to all breeds, not because they are necessarily dangerous breeds, but because dogs are animals and animals can’t always be controlled. I used to work at an animal hospital and have dealt with all breeds of dogs. Never once did I have a problem with any pit bull, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know how dangerous they can be (although I did almost get my arm taken off by a doberman pincher)….and for the record, I’ve been bitten three times, once by a German Shephard, once by a cocker spaniel, and once by a chihuahua.

You are right there Nebraskan. I think little dogs are the meanest. It’s good they are small so they can’t do much real damage.

PLEASE to not compare this situation to WWII and the holocaust….you do a great disservice to those people by associating their lives with that of a dog. i, too, am a dog lover, but there is a big difference between animals and humans…it’s not my law…it’s nature’s law.

personally, i think you are ignorant for making the comparison. it’s childish and simply naive.

    Nebraskan-
you misunderstood my statement. I was certainly not comparing holocaust victims with dogs-I would not compare holocaust victims with ANYONE. I was simply saying in regards to the comment that the breed should be wiped out that if you are judging that on the basis of there being some bad pitbulls out there it is a rush to judgement and condeming an entire group for the bad behavoir of a few. My point was that even when people commit the most atrocious acts known to man we do not believe in wiping out the entire group. No one said there are some Germans that acted horifically let’s get rid of them all. I am truly sorry if this comment was taken as a comparison to holocaust victims-that was not my intention and I would never make such a statement. Apologies to anyone else who interpreted it that way-I can not blame you for being offended.

samgirl – i just wish you would be careful with your analogy…you are comparing animals to humans and well, that’s apples to oranges. discrimination against animals is not the same as discrimination of human beings.

no worries though, have a good tuesday.

Not to be picky, but who mentioned wiping out the species in this article? This just mentions extra care and precautions for a dangerous breed of animal.

Properly trained dogs by responsible owners of any breed have well behaved dogs. The breed has absolutely nothing to do with what the dog does. Some pitbut strains have been bred to be aggressive and any responsible dog owner would not buy or obtain an animal without looking at the bloodlines. Everyone is aware of the potential problems with irrsponsibly breeding for aggression. All property owners should have liability insurance anyway but to say that pit bull owners need it due to the agression of that breed is to be unfairly discriminatory.

You are niave and, just maybe, stupid, too.
Your mind cannot grasp the reality that if you’re wrong, some poor little kid will suffer the rest of his life. For what? For who? To try and prove you were a good trainer for your ego; and if you’re wrong?
Maybe experience will help your dumb ***, but I doubt it.
