No one mentions that the DPS instructs the US Post Office NOT to forward mail to licensees….All mail is returned to DPS and not forwarded. Persons don’t get their fine letters…no judge or lawyer or insurance agent tells them of this law. The normal person has to stand in line for an hour to change address on their license and many move more than once a year. Licensees with no warrants or outstandings can change address on line, but not those with problems…Hence, 750,000 suspensions…

This is nothing more than a money grab by the Texas lawmwkers. Money earmarked for trauma centers? Why, then, is Sen. Ogden complaining that the State would have more money if these fines could be collected? This was stealth legislation passed in the waning hours of the legislative session with little or no debate or conversation. It is true: No man’s life or property is safe when the Texas Legislature is in session. These post judgment fees go directly to the State and are not shared with the local political subdivisions as are criminal fines.

The issue is affordability. The upshot is: more hit and run accidents, more police chases, more junk automobiles purchased and abandoned, fewer drivers insured and even less respect for the uniformed
“cowboys” we have patrolling the streets.

I don’t have a solution to the problem but the law itself, beside its probable unconstitutionality, reeks of greed. At a 70% non-pay rate, maybe Texas is trying to get blood out of a stone. I live in Texas. Your state may be next.

    I agree R.

The law is the law is the law. Whether we like the law or not, we must obey it. When the law is changed, we must obey the new law. If we get to choose which laws to obey and which to ignore just hink of the world that we would live in.

If the law says that I pay a fine for 3 years for a traffic violation, I am going to pay. And you can sure bet I won’t do that action again.

I don’t think the law is very fair, but until it is changed it is the law and it must be obeyed.
