All companies minimize their losses with
tight controls over the ALE coverage payouts. It’s sad that Allstate decision
to apply these controls in a storm this
size is unfortunate. Farmers Insurance approved all displaced Insureds $1000.00
ALE pending adjustment going the extra mile in locating displaced Insureds.
Whoa Suzy Q…did you mention that you were in a storm? I must have missed that!
What y’all need to understand is there are ambiguities in the policy wording therefor, the insured wins. Insurance companies exist to pay claims. If they did not pay claims, we’d all be looking for other jobs. I don’t mean to come off sounding like a liberal and I pay close attention to losses and risk management. However, Allstate filed that form with TDI to use and then they went for market share in first and second tier, so apparently they didn’t think they were going to be paying many claims.
You can’t cover it on one storm and not another. Companies can’t pick and choose which storms they will cover. If they did you can bet I would go back against them for not covering me last year.
Word from Allstate’s head cat guy is that they applied for the same form in Texas as they have in some other states. Texas didn’t approve that part of the policy, so their Texas policy doesn’t have the wording that allows payment without damage to the insured property. Now the board can come back with their order, but it doesn’t mean the policy actually says coverage applies.
Homeowners/Insureds should read their policies and understand the limitations and exclusions instead of complaining about their insurance companies failure to pay claims on uninsured losses.
I rate winds from a tornado right up their with other storms. But no, my home was not damaged by it. I lost power, and if you will think back millions did and it took the power company time to make all the repairs. I can not fault the insurance company for that.
Kim, surely you aren’t suggesting that Allstate go with the defense “some insureds are morons”?
Insured depend on and yes even TRUST the “Good Hands” people and by the way, when is the last time you read all the deregulated forms in the Texas market?
News reports this afternoon are that some parts of downtown L.A. have power outages. I s’pose they should collect some money from the homeowners – or is that on their auto policy?

Thanks Hal for clarification. It sounds like JimnTx needs to read his policy or at least Allstate’s policy more closely.

Maybe their Life Insurance will cover it
