A former Alexandria, La., insurance agent (producer) was arrested and
issued a Cease and Desist Order for allegedly misappropriating
insurance funds, Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley announced.
Department of Insurance Fraud Unit investigators served Steven Dewayne Perkins, 27, with a Cease and Desist Order at the time he was arrested by members of the State Police Fraud Unit on charges of theft of over $500 and unfair trade practices. These actions were taken as part of a continuing series of shutdowns of illegal operations in the insurance industry.
The Department of Insurance Cease and Desist Order states that Perkins misappropriated insurance premiums of more that $3,200. It further states that he is prohibited from engaging in any activity relating to the business of insurance, effective immediately. In addition, he is subject to fines and other penalties for the activities outlined in the order.
Department of Insurance records show that Perkins held a life and health insurance license from July 2000 to May 2002.
