Product recalls across the E.U. and U.K. fell slightly in the third quarter of 2025, with 3,745 events reported, according to Sedgwick’s latest European Product Safety and Recall Index.
The total reflects a 1.6% decrease from the previous quarter, but it still marks the seventh consecutive quarter with more than 3,500 recalls. The year is on pace to see the most annual recalls, according to Sedgwick.
Automotive recalls saw the biggest increase, rising from 145 in Q2 to 297 in the third quarter. It was the highest quarterly total in 11 years.
In the third quarter, there were fewer pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer product recalls compared with the previous quarter, according to the report.
The consumer product industry experienced the largest drop at 16.8%, while pharmaceutical and medical device recalls fell 2.9% and 5.9%. Both the automotive and food and beverage sectors saw increases, with the automotive industry recording its highest quarterly total in more than a decade, the report shows.
The report reviews recall data and policy changes from five product categories and three sub-categories: automotive, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer products, which include electronics, clothing, and toys. Four categories saw recalls increase quarter over quarter—automotive, food and beverage, toys, and consumer electronics.
